I haven't been writing for a couple of weeks; going through a bit of a rough patch, but that will pass and I will get back to productivity soon. I won't go into details (many of you know about the situation already), but to suffice it to say, an experiment didn't have the desired results, sending my emotions spiraling. Well enough of that! It's a new day, a new month and I am ready to get back into production!
Spring and Autumn have always been my most favorite seasons; oddly enough, it just occurred to me they are the transitional seasons. At this age I feel I like I'm going through a personal transition, so maybe this is my "early Autumn"? Isn't that a poetic way to look at it?
So, just because I haven't been writing in the past couple of weeks doesn't mean I'm not gonna talk about Raid on Cochecho here! A certain beloved *cousin* (and she knows who she is) suggested that while my emotions were uncontrollable would be a time to write the climactic scenes, because, if you are familiar with the actual historical event, this is a very sad story. But I thought it best to ride this out until my own personal storm passed before I did that.
Want to talk word count? The rough draft is still only 40,000! I like to keep things moving and I don't want the reader to think the story is slow, but my main concern is to flesh out these characters so well that the reader is completely invested in them. Isn't that what all novelists strive for?
Part One was just a couple of days, set in September 1676, to introduce the characters (many of them children). Part Two is thirteen years later, beginning about 10 days before the massacre. So far I have written up to about four days before so I still have some time to flesh out these characters more.
So I think I'm ready (or near ready) to get back in writing mode! I want to personally thank my dear friends and family who have helped me through this. The many phone calls are what helped the most, and I probably am not completely done needing to talk talk talk, so again I appreciate everyone's love and concern and patience!
