Besides William the clairvoyant tabby, Kaiser the disciplined K-9 officer and Mao the despotic Siamese, we have Loqo (pronounced Loco), the loquacious African Gray parrot. (Special thanks to my buddy Kelly Conrad for the name suggestion!)
Loqo is 30 years old. He was Agnes's late husband Ned's pet while Agnes preferred her tabbies. Loqo has seen a lot of cats come and go in his long life. At the present time, he and William cohabit relatively peacefully by basically ignoring each other. But sometimes Loqo scolds William by screeching, "You're a bad cat!" William merely regards the bird with narrowed eyes, considering how much force he would need to propel himself up to Loqo's perch.
So now I have four nonhuman characters who all demand to play a crucial part in the climax of the story.
Which would be great, if I could just establish a beginning and middle.
